2011 CTS-V vs 2001 1.8T
« on: September 09, 2010, 10:04:04 AM »
Well first I'll accept all the laughter.

In all seriousness, it was about 2AM and I was driving home from the woman's house. There was absolutely no one on the highway. I set the cruise control to 80 and was all content with staying there for about 10 miles. Suddenly I see this newer CTS-V rip roar up next to me in the middle lane. As the car was cruising along side of me, I look over and this older man, probably in his mid to late 40's was looking over at me. He gave me the thumbs up and I returned the gesture.

He gave me the shrug and I looked at him dumb-foundedly.

To myself I said, "Seriously?"

I gave him the go ahead and we rolled from 60.

There was no doubt in my mind he would pull ahead, and he did. He was about 3 car lengths ahead when we finally called it quits.

I did keep up for all of 4th, but as soon as I hit 5th, my car laughed at me as it went into "roll mode."

He slowed down, looked over at me and gave me the thumbs up again. I again, returned the favor.

As he went WOT, the back of the CTS disappeared into the night.

Mmm, I sure do love me the new CTS. :yup:

Who just drives around looking to race random cars that are not in the same performance league as your own?

Sometimes you take what you can get.  One night when I had my GTP I felt like running, so I "hopped" the front end of the car up and down by breaking hard, letting off, breaking hard at a light.  Worked too, the Integra next to me revved and off we went

I just drive like an asshole, and eventually someone tries to pass me.  but I never just pulled alongside cars and revved at them.   ... well except this WRX one time, but he was in the same performance league as me... and I was faster  from a roll, so   ;D

Me.

I'll chase down an E63 AMG / M5 / F430 just to have them rev and TEAR FUCKING ASS as they rip down the road.

I like nice loud fast cars. I want to see them go fast and hear them be loud.

Same.  I'd race anything just to see it go at WOT.  I once raced a Supra with about 800HP.  In my Stock Cadillac Seville.  Did I expect to win? No way.  But, man it was awesome seeing that Supra go WOT.  Although I heard pretty much only the turbos and nothing else. lol

yeah, but do people in Supra's and AMG's really go around picking fights with Civic's and Chevy Impala's?  No, unless they are douchbags.

But people in Cadillacs don't usually have others banging down their doors trying to race.  I had the same issue in my Comp G.

BTW, the sollution to that is to get personalized plates.  Doesn't matter what they say, they can say "IM ID10T" and people will want to race.

Seemed like a cool old guy. Maybe he had an MKiv previously?

I don't know, but he wasn't a douchebag about it.

On that same stretch of road I was cruising along when a BMW 740il came up next to me followed by another 1.8T Jetta. There was no traffic, and the three of us spanned across three lanes and threw our high beams on. Followed 495N all the way to I-95 and then jumped back into traffic.

I enjoy coming across other drivers who enjoy driving. Not soupy Civics and Integras, who think they're hot shit, and then "peel ass" down the highway sounded like a swarm of angry bees. (I'm biased, as all the beaners around here drive them, and ricebox them.)

I mean shit, if a Ferrari F50 pulled along side me and gave me the signal, I'd go for it. Like the others said, I enjoy hearing and seeing other decent cars at WOT.

Man, I wish there were better stretches of road around here to just cruise. Right now I'm pretty motivated on getting a motorcycle, want to find one during the colder months that might need a little work, fix it up and tear the streets up in the summer. Definitely not looking for a huge project, just a small fixer upper.

Probably a gear or 2 too high, was just trying to make it competitive. My guess anyway.

Yea, that's always fun. I was driving around late one night just for something to do, it was really nice out and I just felt like driving..

Came across a guy in a 70's Road Runner, so I drove next to him for a while. Then a 60's Impala joined up, and eventually a 3rd gen Camaro but he only drove along with us for a couple miles before turning off. Then some wiggers in an old Lincoln with 22's on it joined up... nobody was like trying to race or anything (The Lincoln is the only one I'd have stood a chance against anyway  ), we were just cruisng.

I was headed to Boston last weekend. As I got on the highway, I moved over to the fast lane, as there were cars straggling to stay at 65 in the other three lanes. As I passed a car in the third lane, a bright blinding mass of light appeared behind me. Bright blue HID's with yellow HID fogs.. Okay, whatever. I moved over, and sure enough a beat to all hell, 4th Gen, 4dr Civic pulls alongside me to my left. The car was dented, rusting, and has various bondo spots on the front bumper. It was running on steelies, had a big ole fart can, and must of been running on cut springs because it was bouncing all over the place.

When I looked over, the (young man of African decent) with a crooked flat brimmed hat was staring back. He then threw up a middle finger followed by the "V" and "W".

So you're driving in a shitbox Honda, and you're telling me "fuck Volkswagen"? Okay.

He passed by me for a second then slowed down again, clearly trying to get me to race. I denied at first, there were a few cars around and the speed limit decreases about 15 miles up the road, once you enter the Boston area. As the traffic opened up, I came back up on his right, looked to my left, and gave him the thumbs up. There was no official go, but we both took off after that.

I downshifted into 4th, gave him a peace sign and pulled a car length on him in a matter of seconds. I moved in front of him and shifted to fifth, then matted it. As the speed climbed, he was becoming smaller and smaller in my rearview mirror. At 110mph, I pulled back into the 3rd lane and slowed back down to speed. He kept up for a few, but his initial take off told me it was a slushbox. Unless he never downshifted..

He was still doing 100+ when he flew by me and took off into the HOV lane in the Somerville area. I laughed and took the exit to Storrow Drive.
