Car starts up, instantly redlines.
« on: April 19, 2013, 05:24:30 PM »
Hello good sirs!

I just finished replacing the HG on my samurai, but I ran into a problem - after I redid the timing, the truck seems to start perfectly fine, but after started the little guy decided he wants to rev right up - all the way to the redline.  Any ideas?

Valve timing may be off by a tooth on the crank side of things, dizzy timing is perfecto.  Can't find any vacuume lines not hooked up.  Could my valve lash cause this?  Wouldn't it just run like shit if that was the case?

I'm hella hella frustrated at the moment, so for now I shall just leave this as it is.  I'll add more as I think of it.

Edit: throttle linkage seems fine, too

Throttle body blade open?
Otherwise thinking vacuum leakage.

I don't think valve lash would have any effect like that.

Try unplugging the MAP sensor and see what happens.

Yeah, didn't think so either - if anything it'd just run like shit.  T'was just throwing out ideas.

N no MAP sensor - car rocks a webber and is from '86

Checked the Carb.  all seems fine, with no blades stuck open.  Will investigate further tomorrow.

The only thing I could think is that the floats are stuck and dumping fuel and it must be forcing the butterfly open or something. Does it have an auto choke? Try disconnecting the linkage on that and trying to start it again.

What Nick said, check to make sure the auto choke and throttle are both functioning properly.
