Found air filter box loose.....change oil?
« on: March 31, 2013, 03:42:06 PM »
This is on my 2012 Veloster, 26700 miles. I bought a k&n drop in filter, put it in, and shortly thereafter could hear throaty sounds from throaty sounds from the engine bay. I knew something was wrong but just realized now i was an idiot and the air box was not sitting in the slots properly and was slightly open to the air. The new filter is the right fitment, but does not sit as snug as OEM. My question is do you think crap couldve gotten past the filter, and if so, should i change my oil? It was like this for 1200 miles and i am 2000 into a synthetic oil change.

Wouldn't hurt for peace of mind... but the damage is probably done, if any. I'm not sure I'd worry about it too much unless you typically drive on really dusty, dirty roads.

I wouldn't bother changing the oil the air going into the cylinders prob wouldn't be getting into the oiling system much.
