My dad had a '95 Silverado. Hauled our 27' fifth wheel for a few years without any major problems.

Yeah, those 99-07 Silverados and the older C/Ks are rock solid. Interior quality is really the only knock, but it's good enough for a truck.

Did anyone miss the part where it's a '97. Not 99-07. Not 2000 up lol

Looks 16a and redneck as fuck.

Lol not my cup of tea. But whatever floats your boat

A bad experience with one notoriously bad model warrants writing off an entire manufacturer?

Wow dude, fucking really? Wasn't even referring to the Equinox, that's a whole different story. Don't jump to conclusions next time, think before you pop your mouth off. I think Silverados are nice vehicles and would own one, it's just that truck has probably been rode hard and put away wet. Kinda odd it had an engine replacement at 100K, I mean shit does happen, but damn. Ling, I hope I'm wrong and you don't have a single problem with it, but brodozers of that era around here are torn up.

I was going based off your comments in the past, I think one of which was where you said you'd never own a GM vehicle again. No need to get pissed off.

Anyway, yeah I did forget that he's looking at a 97. Still, good vehicles. There's not really a whole lot TO break on them. They are known for hoods that require a little bit of coercion to open (just hit the very front of the hood with the bottom of your fist after pulling the hood release), door alignment pin bushings that give out and cause the doors to sag (easy fix), the tail light circuit board connectors can corrode so dab on some dielectric grease as soon as you get it, and if you have to replace the fuel pump, be prepared to be annoyed by how loud the new one is.

Really, that's about it. These trucks are good trucks and stand up to a lot of abuse. My trailer race truck has 285,000 miles on it and even after gunning it around a race track and rough housing it with other cars, it still runs and drives perfectly.

I will probably be driving it hard myself, I can't say for sure how it was driven before but if any of the running gear shits out, I have a whole truck for parts. And Im a mechanic, not a big deal to me. Its what I do.

Madfairlane, yeah it's redneck as fuck but I do live in Oklahoma. ;) Call it a brodozer all you guys want, but I can actually put the lift to use. Driving in pastures it will keep my exhaust off the dry weeds, I live on country roads that get deep ass ruts from when it rains and the farmers come down them in their semis, that last snow we had I could've used a lifted pickup.. theres usually fallen debris on the roads from the farmers and the winds that we get around here. I expect shit to break, its a 16 year old vehicle. And if the body gets tore up I don't give a shit. If I bought something newer and nicer I would be to damn worried about beating it up.

Yeah even if you didn't have an extra truck, it's a Chevy Silverado, finding parts would be easy.

This was just going home. The most maintenance these roads get is a pass from a grader every now and then, that's it.

I may have taken the slightly longer way home to achieve the muddiness lol (didn't think the road was so bad by looking, wasnt entirely on purpose this time) but even the main road isn't much better really. You definitely take a step back in time in these parts, but we are classy people compared to south east Oklahoma.. that's a different world entirely.

Watch out for the intake gaskets leaking on that chevy. They are kinda known for it down here, but it may partly be due to the heat.

Ive only known the 4.3's to do it, and the TBI 5.7's, hopefully I won't have to. I don't hate doing them, but I'd rather not lol

Well, it's official. The bro dozer came home with me. It needs a little TLC but nothing major at all. Couple bulbs need replaced, apparently he didnt listen to the radio and the antenna isnt hooked up. Going to yank the cd player in it anyway dont like it to much. Needs a good cleaning to, he tried to clean it up but not very well. Also after paying closer attention, it is a GMC not a Chevy. Its a solid running pickup, rides like a wagon but I am used to that. (FedEx truck rode worse) Liking it quite a bit, the 18" wheels will stay until I need new tires, then it will get 16's and 33's probably, we will see.
