Android Launchers?
« on: February 09, 2013, 12:46:52 PM »
didn't use Comp Tech because not really a computer...

Anyone have an experience with them? I've been tinkering lately.

I tried Go Launcher long ago, but I felt it lagged the system a lot, and used a lot of battery/CPU. Now I've been switching back and forth between the free versions of Nova and Apex. I'm really liking Nova so far. Smooth and light. May by the full version soon.

Anyone else have any experience?

I just run stock on my Razr Maxx, but I used to use Launcher Pro. Never had issues with it and has a lot of customization.

Launcher Forums? Do such home brew communities exist? I don't know anything about android, but I'll ask my brother in law since he's a geeky dude.

There are tons of forums for android to do just about anything. I've run multiple types of roms among other types of cool stuff you i people can't. :P

One of those things, if you're into tech stuff android is for you.

Used to run Launcher Pro on my Droid and Droid 3 a while back, haven't bothered with one on the Razr.

But Launcher Pro was excellent, I never had any issues with it, and it had a good amount of customization.

I use Nova Launcher with a minimal icon pack on my Nexus 4.

I use Apex on my GS3. No complaints other than harassing me to update every couple weeks, but that's nothing big.

Kindle Fire
How do you like it? I've thought about upgrading from my Gen 2 Kindle...but since it still works I kinda feel bad about getting a new one, but at the same time I sorta want a tablet but I really don't NEED one, so I figured a Fire might be a good compromise.

I used Launcher Pro for about 3 years between my Hero and then my Evo.   Then when i got my GS3 i used it and it seemed to be slower and less responsive, and it seems the dev's dont really update it any.   I found more features and quicker responsiveness with Nova Launcher.   I used nova launcher for about 9 months and then tried Go Launcher.   Go launcher just wasnt for me.  it seemed to forget what i set up my shortcuts as, and when i tried to make my own icons it distorted them.  So i went back to Nova Launcher and i am incredible pleased with it.

Any technical questions should go in comp tech since it's for technical information.

Launcher Pro hasn't been updated in quite awhile. I wouldn't suggest it at all.

Go Launcher is a terrific all around launcher that does it's job and gives you some fairly decent customization options.

I'm currently messing around with Apex on my Galaxy SIII, and am liking it too. It gives me more control over placement of items on my screen than other launchers.

I still have both Apex and Nova on my phone, but I've been very impressed with Nova thus far. May purchase the full version soon.

Just to show it, I recreated a sci fi theme that saw on one of the android sites using nothing but Apex, UCCW, Phantom Music Control, and circle battery widget.

All the buttons are functional and I have nearly my entire phone on one screen.

Hard to beat so far.

Still working on some alignments, like the date at the top, but all in all its mostly complete.
