Any ideas? (2 desktop computers into 1 maybe)
« on: December 18, 2012, 03:14:44 PM »
My mother has this ancient compaq computer that runs her embroidery program for her fancy sewing machine. I to figure out how to merge this computer with a much newer dell. I do not have the disks or have i been able to find the program else ware to just install on the new computer so it seems i am stuck with this old compaq. Any ideas?

New dell is windows 7 - Old Compaq i think is xp

What i have floating around:
Remove HDD from compaq and get an enclosure and run it as a VM on the new machine

Buy a KVM switch and run both computers at the same time but taking up a lot of extra power and space

I'm not sure I even follow. Why are you trying to merge them? Because the embroidery software doesn't work on Windows 7? Just install a Windows XP VM specifically for the software. That's all you need.

The company won't provide you with a copy of the software without you paying? What the fuck?

Is there nothing online about it?

It was originally purchased by my grandmother in the early 2000s and when she passed away in 2004 my mom inherited the machine. It is a very old program that husqvarna no longer supports and their only option is for my mother to purchase the new program for $1000+( i am going off what my mother has told me when she called the company). I have looked all over and i cannot find a copy of what she needs to get this machine to work.

i just ordered the KVM switch so i will just proceed with that idea

Why not contact the company yourself? Explain the situation. I really find it hard to believe that they won't provide the software anymore.
