Timing Belt just snapped on the Accent...opinions.
« on: September 19, 2012, 06:37:32 AM »
The timing belt on my 2004 Accent snapped earlier this week while working. Is it even worth it to have the head looked at?...The cars not worth jack shit, so I'm guessing the answer from most people is going to be no.

Opinions on a car that would be reliable enough to run up to 1000 mi/wk on a delivery job, and run under $5k.

This looks interesting: http://www.cactusauto.com/vehicles/19619-2003-Ford-Focus-ZX3-Hatchback-2D-White-Tucson-AZ-85705 but not the most reputable car dealer around.

Snap while driving, or when you first started it?

I had a timing gear fail on a VW VR6 motor, and the internals/head were perfectly fine.

While doing 65mph.

While doing 65mph.

I actually had someone have that happen on an old Escort, and it was actually fine.

Happened on my sister's Kia Rio and it destroyed a piston and bent valves in all the other cylinders. Her was an '04, I believe. Your Accent is the same car so I would assume it's fucked but the only way to know is to have someone pull the plugs and scope each chamber.

Probably because the engine in that old escort was non-interference. I'm pretty sure that Hyundai 1.6l is interference.

Your Accent has an Interference engine. Source

This would be a good car to replace it as a Independent Courier work vehicle.

I really love the Integras. Basically a Civic in a different package.
