Adding a 2nd Hard drive
« on: September 09, 2012, 12:25:42 PM »
About a year ago i bought a cheap WD caviar blue HD for a computer i put together for my grandparents from spare parts i had. I ended up getting a better computer and gave them my old comp. Now i have a barely used hard drive sitting around. If i put in the slower hard drive in my computer will it slow down my overall performace? I am thinking of installing OSx on it or just keeping it for the media hard drive.

Current HD
Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"

2nd HD
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5"

Just throw it in as a media drive, although it's pretty small. It won't slow anything down as long as you don't put your OS on it.

It would make a good music drive, but movies/TV shows would eat the space up very quick. Plus what Kalgorn said.
