Finished Freefall by Nobel Prize winner Joseph E Stiglitz.  Pretty much a rehash of what all the smart economists have been saying for the last 30 years, as well as screaming the last 5 years.  Reagan/Thatcher/Friedman have doomed us all.  And the guy is right.

Basically, a cheerless book.

Moving on to The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money by John Maynard Keynes again.

Rereading Titanicus by Dan Abnett...if you like 40k or giant mechs fucking shit up this is a great book...and Abnett is an asshole to his characters, no Mary Sue self insert or Ultrasmurf style wankery going on in this book.

Just finished a 1994 vintage biography on Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, and am now delving into a 1973 vintage biography of Iosif Stalin.

Very disturbing stuff. Russia has suffered untold agonies since October 1917, that's to be sure.
...and either quite drinking or quite posting because you're going into some sort of weird AMERICA 1776 FUCK YEAH mode.

The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money by John Maynard Keynes.  Seriously, I understand finance and economics, and I would need a class or two to fully get this book.  This is why conservatives hate Keynes... he's too brilliant to understand.  If you read Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman side by side with this work, people will choose Capitalism over it any day.  The later provides easy to digest and 'safe' ideas, where Keynes forces you to challenge yourself.  It's far easier to deamonize something if you can't understand it.

Still, even with my muddled understanding, the book pretty much lays out a good foundation for modern economics.  Knocks against is, aside from being a challenging read, fall more upon the fact that it's an 80 year old work that could have never considered the speed of modern computing.  A freshening up of the work is in order, but the basics are spot on even decades later.

Moving on to The Walrisian Vision of the Microeconomy by Donald W. Katzner.  Short read, and mostly equations and graphs.

Finished Moving on to Options for the Stock Investor by James Bittman.  My wife picked this up for a dollar from a library sale.  I’m not even sure knows what an option is, and probably had no idea the book would be for.  Considering it was from ’97, you wouldn’t think it would be worth even a dollar.  Yet, this was a great book for anyone who follows the market.  Options are one of the more difficult concepts to follow, and this book did a great job explaining, detailing, and providing examples.

Reading ERICH VON MANSTEIN: Hitler's Master Strategist by Benoit Lemay.   I started it before my test, so I'm a little way in.  Pretty fascinating stuff about the man who would have lead Germany to victory, if it weren’t for people like Hitler.  More of a military history than anything on the Nazi’s.    Von Manstein was regarded at the best General of the war, and this shows how he got there within the zeitgeist of the time.  Oh, and he also had the hardworking idiot theory of management.

The link is a must read for any office zombie like myself.

yes, I love 1984.  One of my favorites, though when I look at the MTV generation, Brave New World seem more likely to come true.

The Law by Frederic Bastiat

My thought on this came about halfway through.  Libertarianism only exists in a world without causation.  This book makes a point against socialism and for pure libertarianism.  It doesn't work due to reality.

Brave New World was more frightening to me because at the surface you look at it and go, meh doesn't sound too bad, until you actually start to think about the level of genetic fuckery and basically forced drug addiction thats goings on...then it starts fucking with your head, though I hated Mr.Savage's pompous poetry quoting ass...

I switched off the Horus Heresy series briefly to read Helsreach, which covers the story of Black Templars involvement at the third War of Armaggeddon.
