Dell Netbook screen issue
« on: August 25, 2012, 02:39:42 AM »
The computer is question is my mothers 3 year old Dell Inspiron Mini. The screen simply up and quit. When I turn the machine on, usually 1/2 the screen is blank while the other 1/2 has several small vertical yellow lines.

I was able to plug my desktop's screen into the Mini and use the computer as normal. Tried a system restore and reinstalled the graphics driver with no success.

My guess is the physical connection to the screen, or the screen itself is damaged thus making the Netbook junk.

Your thoughts?

If you can connect an external just fine, the screen is probably shot.  I had one crap out in my Asus EEE 10". Check Ebay for cheap replacements.

Hamp is right on the money. Sounds like a bad screen since an external works fine. Replacement should be fairly simply. You can probably find a PDF online detailing how to disassemble it.

That is exactly what I figured.

Now I need to browse eBay. Thanks for the suggestion.

Also check up on alibaba.com. It's not out of the question that you can get screens as cheap as $25 from there and it's the same screen you see on eBay.
