Twin-Hemi Slingshot from "The Syndicate"

My counterpart at work is a bit of a car nut. He's been on pit crews for Baja 500 teams and 1/4 mile drag teams, among other things.

Yesterday I had a good chat with him about his family's racing background. His uncle is Phil Ditmars. Phil was part of a ballsy, pioneering drag team in the early 70s who called themselves "The Syndicate."   They were responsible for this:



That's a pair of 1957 hemi motors.










It doesn't get much more crazy than a twin-hemi slingshot car with 1970s safety equipment and standards.



Apparently the car was never competitive, but it was an awesome showpiece. The car eventually fell into disrepair but has recently been restored to its former glory but another California car nut, Ken Blackmore. Here's a video of the car running and revving at its home shop:
