Pitch: 2011 International Meet?
« on: August 30, 2010, 09:21:36 AM »
Been talking with a fellow member lately.  I have a proposal.

Next year at some point, a get together in Niagara Falls, ON for a weekend. I'm thinking perhaps April/May, or September/October.  Lots of members around the area.  Niagara Falls has lots of attractions to see and do.  We can either organize group events, or have times when everyone can split up, do their own thing and see what they want.

The main street "Lundy's Lane" has dozens of motels and hotels, available for as little as $37 a night.  I figure people could show up Friday night or Saturday morning, and everyone heads their way back on Sunday night.

http://www.a1motel.net/ (Stayed here myself.  Nothing special, but serves the purpose well for the price)

Let me know if anyone is interested :)

You may want to hold off until you find out when we are planning the main AR meet.  I was going to go for sept/oct in Vegas for the first year.  Niagra isn't a bad idea either, though.  I can drive to that one

Just a heads up for any Americans, you need a passport to get back and forth through the border.

Looking at the map, appears to be a lot more people within driving distance to Niagara than Vegas.  Would definitely be more cost-efficient as well.

I love Niagara Falls and have never been to the Canadian side. I would be for it. Jim and I each have passports already.

I already have a passport as well... I've already been to the falls a few times, but I'd imagine the nightlife is fun I've never gotten to experience the nightlife.  I could potentially be down just depends on if I can find  someone to watch my daughter, I suppose one of her grandparents could.

I'm not sure, I was banned for like 4-5 days.  I forgot all about it and had no real way to contact anyone.
Jim was home at that time too I think.  So they didn't come up... so it just kinda fell apart.

I do think it would be alot easier even for the members who would have to fly in... You could essentially fly in to the Rochester air port.

Make it even easier.  Fly into either Niagara NY, Buffalo or Toronto.

Yeah, flying into Buffalo is likely the easiest. My house is also 3/4 of a mile from the airport. If anyone needs help I can pick them up if we do decide to do this.

I've never flown in or out of buffalo... I guess that would be easier considering buffalo is bigger than rochester.

Yeah, but if we get a yearly AR meet, it'll move around the country, it'll start off in Vegas, then move from there every year.

Right, but turnout totally depends on location.

True, but I don't know how many are truly willing to venture to Vegas for this.  I know I can't afford it.  And no one says we can't do two different meets at two different times of the year :)

My gf needs her advanced license to get into Canada but those aren't expensive.   Shit has exploded in the area it seems, the last time I went was about a year a half ago.  They were in the middle of a huge add on to the Hilton, the one falls hotel/casino now has an indoor water park and the other falls casino near the tower got even bigger I believe...  I fucking love that city.  This would work some time after May next year for me.

Exactly.  So east coast means few to none from the west coast will come.  You're preaching to me about something when you guys are suggesting a place that's no where near centralized
