2014 Impala Pics...
« on: April 04, 2012, 11:40:42 AM »
Are on Chevrolet's Facebook page. Just revealed at the New York auto show. No V8, no RWD... But also no "SS" nameplate, so there is still hope.

How is there hope?  Also, it's not unheard of for them to wait a year for bringing out an SS model.

I love the new model. Dunno how existing Impala owners will feel about two different four cylinders being offered though.

I could see the SS having some sort of turbo V6 and AWD. No need to throw another FWD V8 in.

They were working on an AWD V8 a few years back for the Grand Prix.  They even had a test mule they brought to the 2002 Grand Prix Gathering in Oklahoma.  It was an AWD LS1.  One of the VPs of GM was asked at that gathering "Why is GM looking to do that?"  His reply was "Because we can.  We need to move things up a notch."  I wish they were still looking at an AWD V8.

It will probably get an AWD variant at some point. It's on the same platform as the Caddy XTS.

Caprice PPV.  And the aforementioned turbo/AWD platform.  I had my fingers crossed it would be on the PPV platform though.  :(

The Aussies were lucky when Holden released the Monaro 4, at least one market saw AWD LSx power.

Larger photos:

Interior is neat looking, but that steering wheel has got to go.

That side indent... I know they're trying to eliminate the slab-sidedness of their previous generation designs, but this seems a bit much.

Back end is sweet, very Audi like, but I'm not too keen on the front end.

Overall it's a huge step up from the current Impala, but it definitely seems to have aped some foreign competitors designs.

I love the new model. Dunno how existing Impala owners will feel about two different four cylinders being offered though.

Once people get used to the idea that the 4 cylinder is the new V6, and the V6 is the new V8, I don't think "family car with a 4 cylinder" will be as off-putting as it might currently be to some.

The 2012 Impala has one engine option only, the 3.6 litre with the 6 speed transmission. Same engine from the Traverse and Malibu, but the 6 speed really gives the Impala some respectable giddy-up. I can't say for sure, but it feels almost as quick as the Impala SS.

If that's the same drive train that's going into the 2014 Impala, then an SS model might not even be in consideration.

I've heard and read rumors of the Caprice being offered to civilians under a different name, so chances are whatever that is will be Chevy's 4-door hot rod.

lol wat

I didn't defend anyone. gremlin says that about every new car pic posted on this site and it's fucking ANNOYING.

It looks like a cross between a Taurus and an Equus.

hmm I'm not seeing the Equus in it but DEFINITELY Taurus.

Untrue.  It will be off putting to the people who know what the differences are.  Anyway, we've heard this before, "the V8 is dying" then everyone found a way to bring them back.  It's just a catch up game for the manufacturers.  The V8s can always put out more power than a V6 or 4 cylinder.  They just need to bring them up to speed in MPG a bit and they'll be fine.

wow, rage more? I work in and around every model of Chevy every single day, so I'm very familiar with them, and therefore have more input to give on them than i do any other brand. If you think that somehow makes me a blind fanboy, when what the fuck ever, but you must only be noticing the parts where I compliment them instead of the parts where i criticize them as well.

I'm such a GM zealot that I sold both of my Oldsmobiles to buy a Jeep

I was thinking more of the general consumer, not enthusiasts. Of course WE know the difference. But yeah I suppose you're right, as soon as they catch up MPG wise, sticking a V8 in family sedans might not be as taboo as it currently is, with all this "ZOMG V8 EARTH KILLER" propaganda.

You could put a 1000 hp 4 banger in it and I still wouldn't buy it. Big cars should have V8's. It just makes them feel right.

I want to make sure I got this right.  1000 HP and a respectfully high torque number..and you'd take a 400 HP V8 over it?

Or puked them. One of the two. Or shit them, ate it, then puked it, then ate it and puked it again.

Did a decent job of ripping off the Taurus. Maybe they can do the same for the Camaro, and dump the crap interior.

It was a question, not a joke.  I rent at least 25 car a year. Mostly from Avis/Budget since I belong to the American Airlines Frequent Flier program. I get more "miles" on my account when I rent from them. Sometimes an upgrade. This Impala will be an upgrade car when the local branch of Avis/Budget run out of that shit box GM calls a Cruze or is it a Mali-poo? Whatever. 90% of the cars I rent are GM cars. I do think I have a more of a real world experience with GM cars than you do driving them around a dealership floor court.
