Metal in oil?
« on: January 19, 2012, 10:20:13 PM »
Did an oil change today on the Dakota, 170xxx miles.

The oil pressure has been good, no unusual noises, oil in pan was slightly dark but not gritty or milky. Overall it looked fine.

However, after I dumped the filter into the drain pan, I noticed some metal debris. There wasn't a whole lot of it, and it was all pretty uniform and small. Smaller than the tip of a ball point pen.

Should I be deeply concerned? I'm hoping to get another few years out of this truck (maybe 30k miles), and it's in good shape otherwise.

4.7

Noticed some that was copperish, and some silver. It was all so small I couldn't really see both sides without dropping them.

I have a magnetic plug on my firebird and had silver metal shaving stuck to it about 3 years ago every change since then Ive had noting? So to answer your question I dont know, maybe run a compression check and keep an eye on it.
