2001 Grand Prix Tail Light Housing Repair
« on: September 22, 2011, 11:56:27 AM »
So my girlfriend has an 01 Grand Prix, and as with most of these cars, the clear outer lens is not perfectly sealed from the inner part, so water and condensation has made its way inside. The lights still function fine, but it looks like shit, and I want to fix it.

Does anyone know of a way, or of a guide that explains how to safely remove the outer plastic lens without breaking it? I want to remove it, clean it, dry it, and glue it back on so it's sealed completely.

I can't speak for the Grand Prix, but I did the same thing for my Comanche tail lights.

- Search around the lens and housing for a weak spot in the glue
- Use a heat gun on the housing side to soften glue
- Start prying the lens off with a screw driver or other flat sturdy tool
- Work your way around the lens and continue to apply heat and prying pressure
- Clean surfaces and assemble. I used gorilla glue to seal it back together. Not sure on this part as the light has not been field tested. I would also consider using some sort of plastic weld.
