The Big 3 Battle: 2001-2010
« on: August 03, 2011, 07:49:56 PM »
I'm gonna do a weekly poll that pits Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler against each other in a contest to see which manufacturer was the best in a given decade, starting with 2000-2010.

Basically, I'm gonna start the festivities in each thread by posting ONE pic from each decade from each manufacturer, depicting the best I personally think each has to offer from that respective decade.

You guys can weigh in, posting arguments, counter-arguments, more pictures to represent the quality (or lack thereof) of any or all of the brands, as well as hard numbers.

Voting is totally based on opinion though.

So let's begin!

2000 - 2010

Chrysler

General Motors

Ford

can there be a "none of the above" option for when you get to the 80s

Is it based the simply the cars you posted, or the manufacturer's as a whole?

Between those 3 sedans, I'd take the CTSV.
Pony car? Mustang
Subcompact? Fiesta
Compact? Focus
Sports car? Corvette
Pickup? F series

92 Aristo - Borg S366, QSV, AEM V2, 12 psi - 410whp 360ftlbs
84 SVO - FMIC, straight piped, chipped/tuned LB3, 15 psi - 202whp 238ftlbs

Any criteria you want. I just didn't want the first post to be quite so empty so I wanted to pick at least 1 car from each company just to start off.

I voted for Ford. GM has really, really come a long way since 2000, but Ford was always quite a ways ahead. Chrysler has made some terrible products for the last decade. Glad to see that's changing.

GM by far had the best enthusiast products. The Solstice/Sky are just cool.  The Vibe was one of the cars that started the hatchback revolution in North America (with the Protege5 first, then Focus, then Vibe/Matrix).  The Cobalt brought new life to their small coupe/sedan market.  The Aveo was decent for what it was.  Aztek, I don't care who says what... thumbs up!  They had downfalls, like the Malibu Maxx, and the HHR.  Saturn Astra and Aura were nice (though Asstralian), but outside of that, the brand didn't offer much.  Cadillac is only getting better through the years.  GMC needs to disappear.

Ford did great with the redesign of the Mustang in 2005.  The Ford GT got America in the supercar spotlight.  The Focus has always been a great seller (until 08, when it become vomit-inducing).  The 500/Taurus was a flop.  Thunderbird was really neat, sold well, but was short lived.  The Crown Vic stayed in the same generation for 13 years.  Obviously they were doing something right to keep it going for that long, but I just got bored of it.  Lincolns are just polished up Fords.  Aston and Jag were great in the 2000's.

Chrysler.  Same handful of cars for nearly the whole decade.  Little to get excited about.

All things considered... GM.

Much like many of GM's cars through the last however many decades... The Aztek was a great idea terribly executed.

I mean.. a center console that's removable and doubles as a small cooler? That's brilliant. There were plenty of other great ideas the concept version had that were ruined or removed... They need to attempt a similar vehicle again. Maybe something capable of off-road duty... could compete with Jeep if done well. And by similar, I don't mean looks/chassis/powertrain wise, I mean in concept. The Aztek was supposed to be a "go anywhere" adventurer's vehicle. It was far from that.

There were also stereo controls in the rear for when you're tailgating.  I love it :)

The only reason I'd vote for Chrysler would be the Viper.

Or the Challenger, since it technically made it's landing in the latter part of the decade.
Formerly DoD.
