My LS1 vs Friend's LT1
« on: June 29, 2011, 09:41:15 PM »
Well my buddy has been wanting to race me forever.
I rarely street race though anymore since both my jobs depend on my license.

However I finally succumbed monday night to the pressure.

My car is modded quite less than his, I believe the only reason I won is simply cause of the LS being a superior motor really haha.

His LT1 has LE Ported & polished Heads, cc306 Cam, walbro pump, bigger injectors, bigger throttlebody, full exhaust /w a 3" cutout, auto /w shift kit, electric waterpump, stall, 4.10 gears, MSD ignition setup(opti), intake, and other supporting mods for cam(comp springs / comp lifters / comp pushrods etc).

My car has an Isky Cam, stock lifters, stock intake, slp lid, stock fuel, full exhaust, stock clutch, stock trans, stock throttlebody, v6 3.08 gears (i know, my cam HATES them, 4.11's on their way). I also have the necessary springs/pushrods.

We only ran once but the result was pretty obvious.
I honked, he left hard but I wasnt paying attention and started at only like 2.8k rpms, you can definitely tell when I get into my powerband as I start pulling away hard.

Video quality sucks as it was taken with a phone.
Camera car is the LT1

I didn't.
The rear gears are 3.08's from a v6 auto since the rear was from the original v6 shell.

The V6 rear gears will hold up to the LS1?  I'm looking to get out of the 2.79 gears I have but the 3.42s might have been a bit more than I wanted to go with.

Sorry forgot to check back here so not sure if you're still interested in an answer, but really they should be fine.
In strength the rear ends aren't much different. It's not often the gears that actually break, but in turn the higher you go, the great chance those high gears will shock the rear enough to blow it apart.

Are you a 6speed or auto? If you have a 6speed theres really no excuse for not going with 3.90's+ since even with 4.56's you're still just at 2k rpm at 70mph.

In an auto, 3.73's are good for DDing, so 3.42's would be even better. I doubt you'd notice much different at all with 3.08's. 3.42's would be great if you're auto. Even better with 3.73's.
