Ran into a C6 Vette on my way home from work.
« on: June 13, 2011, 08:12:01 PM »
Note: "My way home from work" is a 20 mile stretch of 4 lane divided highway with not a hell of a lot of traffic. So sometimes I take my Civic instead of my beater golf to have a little fun with. It's only a 20 minute drive, but I want to split the miles between two vehicles. I'm glad I took my Civic today. :)

Putting along in the slow lane doing the 60mph limit with the cruise on, sunroof open, windows down, radio loud. Someone in the left lane moves over to let someone past, lo and behold we have a silver C6 Vette coupe with a vanity plate that says "CUFF" (wat?). Passes me doing about 85, then hops back into the right lane and continues his speed. I give it a little gas to go catch him, we stage up.

Dropped it in fourth, it's at about 4500 rpm, should spool fast enough when I floor it, I figure. I honked twice, waved, he waved back then honked 3 times to start the race. I planted my go foot, he got a jump on me from his Chebby's torque while I was spooling. He had a half a car on me by the time the boost gauge swung up to 21 psi and I walked it past him. :D

Let off when I hit the limiter at 8000 rpm, shifted to fifth and braked, had about two lengths on him. We swapped lanes, he did a little flyby and gave me a thumbs up, I returned the thumbs up and we cruised the rest of the way back to the city.

Haha well I'm going to try and get my friend with a C5 Z06 to meet me at the track Friday night. Base C6 and C5 Z06 are about the same performance wise.

Depends on if your talking  LS3 C6 or the LS2 C6. The Ls3 is a whole lot faster, i wanna say 117mph trap speeds, compaired to the i beleive 114mph of the Ls2 C6.
Choot'em!

Oh I had no idea they changed it up. Paint didn't look super fresh so I would say it was an 05 or 06.

Did you roll up your windows to reduce drag?

None the less, it seems that the C6 guy was an automobile enthusiast and could appreciate your car with the thumbs up gesture.
