Where have you heard/seen this? Premium engine will only be a V6 in the Camaro? I'm really going to doubt this.. but I guess it wouldn't surprise me.
With V6s easily hitting 300+ hp these days, what's the need in having a bunch of V8s that only have marginal hp gains? So you can pretend those two extra cylinders make your dick bigger?

No V6 will ever make up for the sound of a V8. That's likely a huge factor in the reason V8 is such a popular engine choice, even today with gas prices how they are.

Very true, and after seeing that 5th gen split up by that tree a year ago, it's probably a good thing.  But even with the safety equipment, a smaller car would still be lighter.

The safety technology is amazing.

Here at the dealership we had a had-written letter and some photos that were faxed to us from GM corporate. The letter was written by the owner of a 2008 Suburban who was hit head on at 70mph (on the highway) by a full size Dodge Ram whose driver had fallen asleep. The Suburban was pancaked in the front end, but the a-pillars held strong, On-Star immediately dispatched emergency crews who were on the scene in less than 7 minutes, and the driver survived with broken ribs, a broken leg and a concussion. He wrote the letter to thank the engineers who design the safety equipment.

Because if they have the technology to make those V6's produce large power while being efficient.. they can put that same technology into the V8's and make huge power while still being pretty efficient. I wouldn't be against owning a V6 Camaro at all, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would still prefer them to have a V8 option.

The V6's are nice, quiet, smooth, efficient, and have decent power... but it just doesn't have the same feeling as a rumbling, noisy V8. It just lacks the fun factor.

That's the other thing to.. Camaro's have always been known to have a V8. And almost all Camaro's (atleast around here) have some kind of loud exhaust on them. These things just go hand in hand.

Although I'm sad to say most of the people with the new 5th gen Camaro's don't have loud exhausts on them. Haven't heard one good sounding one yet.. they're all quiet and it saddens me. :(

They're kinda raspy no matter what you do, I don't like that sound.

Our flagship dealership sent us a 2010 SS/RS with a supercharger, long tube headers and borla exhaust (I posted pictures once, I'll dig them up again when I get home from work). Sound good, louder, but still not as good as classic V8's sound.

Camaro vs Supercharged V10? lolno

From what I understand, there is a supercharged V8 in the camaro now, and the Corvette was going at the Viper with a supercharged V8 as well.  So yes, it's possible.

I love V8s but of they became obsolete I wouldn't cry as long as something replaces them. The sound is my favorite thing about V8s other than the power.

The Viper has a distinct weight advantage and is exceeding 800hp in testing....the Camaro can't touch that, and neither can the ZR1 at this point stock vs stock.

They can't touch it right now.  WHo's to say they won't stick something bigger and better in either car?  Of course, the Viper isn't the best of handling cars out there, while the Corvette is one of the best.  So maybe they won't even glance at the Viper.

lol where did you hear this?

http://www.camarozone.com/6th-generation-camaro-to-the-alpha-platform/

It has been a rumor posted in about a dozen magazines over the last year. Quick google search of 6th gen camaro came up with that fairly easily.

I hope they don't discontinue the LS line. They most likely wont.

If anything, it will just be an engine option.

That said, I'm excited to see its performance and economy.

Just because I said I'd post pics...

Makes something like 550 horse power... I should've taken a picture of the list of what has been done to it.

Nice numbers, ricey ass hood and typical fat ass look...the Camaro just doesn't do it for me visually even though I like them performance wise.

I'm a big fan of the new Camaro. Hood looks stupid being black... no reason that it isn't body color.

They look kinda poofy to me...like soft and inflatable...I actually like the current mustang better than the Camaro...and I love the Challenger...it pulled off the retro look really well and the new SRT8 392? I think it is, is bad ass.

The absolute newest retailoring of the Mustang looks pretty good. I wasn't a fan until then. I still like the Camaro though. I know the rear is huge, but I can look past that.

The Mustang looks as if the skin has been pulled taught over it, like it's skeleton is ready to burst out at any moment.

The Camaro just has a typical old-school form over function design to it. The proportions are a bit weird and make it look bigger and bulkier than it actually is, but it's still visually interesting and stands out in a crowd.

The Challenger is, for my money, the best retro design so far.

That's the problem.  Fuck these retro-future designs and just think future.

and yet it sells next to nothing, and is a huge failure

The Camaro and Mustang are still keeping up sales volumes. That can't be said about the Challenger, and unless they do something to it to make it sell more, its going to be axed pretty soon.

I think it's just too much money for what it is.  You can get a Charger with the same engine, two more doors (and I think better looking with the current generation) for less money...

And until this year, the base model SUCKED.
