Upgraded to Windows 7, issue with the mouse.
« on: March 08, 2011, 06:20:51 PM »
I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1721, originally came with Vista. Just upgraded it to Win 7 and am now having issues with the built in mouse. The mouse itself is working fine, it does everything I need it to, but the pad has built in sections for scrolling. The scrolling isn't working.

I went in and looked at the mouse properties, and it thinks it's using a regular mouse, like you would use on a desktop. It doesn't have the built in mouse installed.

I was going to run the drivers and utilities cd that came with it.. but those are for Vista. I went and looked on Dells site, and they don't have Win 7 drivers for this computer that I could find. I'm assuming I should just be able to install some drivers and get it to work. Ideas?

Download the latest vista driver from Dell's website. Once it's downloaded, right click -> properties -> compatibility -> check "run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows Vista SP2." Also check "run this program as an administrator."

Note, this will not work if you installed Win7 64-bit.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have a generic Win7 driver for touchpads. Most touchpads (at least by the same company) are very similar and just use background software to monitor touchpad input and do certain things based on that.

Maybe try downloading and installing this.

Tried the first one from Speedy, scroll pad is working again. Fuck yeah! It sucked so bad not being able to use my finger for scrolling.

You don't realize how much you use it until it's not there.
