240sx vs Mid 90s Mustang Cobra.
« on: December 24, 2010, 08:04:52 AM »
This is by far not the most exciting nor fastest car i faced.  But it is the only one on the current turbo setup.

So I am driving home after another failed attempt of me being a pua.  (I have decided that I have to no longer be part of my current company nor part of its bullshit crazy work hours to get the lifestyle I want, other then that its a fucking waste of time.)  When I pass a mid 90s sn 95 cobra.  He looked pretty stock, with stock wheels, but good wide summer tires and a miss colored gas cap, and hid lights.  We were inside a tunnel when I pass him, I am on the right lane and he is of the furthest lane.  I love tunnels, i can't help but boost and let the bov so I can hear the pssssh.  Well I am still in 5th gear in low rpms and I manage maybe 5 psi before I left off so its a small psssh.

Well this was enough for him to come behind me match my speed get next to me and he floor it, and gets a pretty good head start.  I manage to downshift from 5th to 3rd switch lanes and run him down very quickly and let off, I guess he was still at wot when I caught up to him (still in 3rd) because at this point him and his passenger are  very surprised already nodding in approval, and giving my car props..  Personally I couldn't tell if he was at wot or not.  Its at this point that I notice what at first looks like aftermarket cowl hood, and the SVT snake emblem on his fender.

We both slow down again, I put in 3rd gear again, I hear him down shift. and his dohc V8 rev up, I let him get about 1 or 2 car lenghts head start, then I go.  This new turbo spools much much smoother, power feels extremely linear, a kin to an S2000, but speedo moves much faster, you actually cannot feel the accelaration as a driver much. (passenger of my roomate disagress with me.)  Well I catch up to him very quickly, and by the time I pass him I don't just pass him, I completely fly past him, while I can still hear his car at wot.  I  start to left off just as I passed him, and I still manage a 4+ car lenght advantage by the time I hit the brakes.

At this point he gets next to me again both him and his passenger gives me thumbs up, I return the friendly gesture and get off my exit.  Im impressed how smooth this thing spools, its almost as if came stock from the factory this way, car just accelarates with very little drama.

sounds like you have a good set-up from what you say your power band feels like! I HATE the small displacement turbo cars that do the whole hit the gas...lag...lag...lag...OMG POWER AND WHEELSPIN....shift...lag..repeat.

Srry but the sn95 was not a dohc, it was the worst 5.0 that ford ever produced and shoved in a stang.

i doubt it was an r since they are not for the street, and sure it was not white. It is sad to say but alot of mustang owners just put the badges on there and thing they have something special. I witnesed and i swear this guy thought he had the only v-6 cobra ever made.

It was a mid late 1990s cobra with the 4.6 dohc motor.   I thought SN95 applied to all rounded mustangs from 1994 to 2004.

Not like it makes a difference if its a stock mustang from V6 to the brand new GT500 the outcome would been the same.....

If you shift and you're suddenly out of the powerband, you need more revs. Then you can wheelspin through all the gears uninterrupted. :D

ok so your saying you were up against a 3,500+ car? With maybe half the hp. you have? Just saying there are alot of tards out there that try to make there car better then it is. This stang is no better. If mid 90's, to me thats 95. Srry i was wrong with pulling up the wrong info.
None the less the 96-98 where no better.

1996 V6 Mustang

Horsepower: 150

Torque: 215

1996 Mustang GT

Horsepower: 215

Torque: 290

1996 Mustang Cobra

Horsepower: 305

Torque: 300
You get the idea. It would be like me picking on a 13 sec car.

It's all about the taillights.  Horizontal lights are the old 5.0 SN95 stangs.  That Cobra would have pushed 240.  Vertical taillights on a Cobra were the DOHC 4.6l, which is a bit more respectable 300.

And no... I don't think a GT500 would be to worried about ya.
MBA, CFP, CRPC

Yea... also CEO and CCO, but you can buy those ones.

i dont know i have noticed some slow ones, well around here. Alot has to do with the driver. I am intrested, in what this guys car does in the 1/4? From the sounds of it, except with the waste gate. It should be pretty good.

Darc I make same power as a GT500 and Im in a 2600 lb car, with a CD of 0.30  I would trash a stock GT500.  I notice those GT500 needs a lot of extra power to make up for their great weight and air drag.

Right now my setup includes 2 walbro fuel pumps, 850 cc injectors a 54 lb turbo boosting at 21+ psi on E85, so I am running more advance timing then stock too, plus much more agressive cams and bigger intake manifold.

And thats exactly how I knew which cobra it was due to vertical tailights.

As for the quarter mile, Im going to get a spare transmission some sticky tires and see what I can do.     Im debating if I should upgrade to 120 lb injectors first or not.

Soo... The C6 Corvette ZR1's Cd is .34... think you could take one of those out? Those Toyota Prius and Honda Insights must be destroying you with that .26/.25 Cd

They dont have a 500 hp engine now do they?  I have a fast car deal with it.  (and fuck yes Im proud of it, I build it you would be too if you ever made one.)

Did you miss the thread where I embarrased a corvette that is as fast if not faster then a GT500?  I also beaten a Zx6r with a smaller turbo, a Factory 5 cobra kit car, a cadillac XLR-v, and even a F430.  On my old setup.

Fine line between being proud and being a jackass about it.  Most every time I see a post of yours its something about your car "being able to beat that" or something.

I was pointing out how pointless the Cd numbers are... Hell a Toyota Sienna's Cd is .30. Even with a 500 HP engine that Cd won't mean it's more aerodynamic than a Corvette.

What section of the board is this?  Oh thats right its the kill section, and prior to these 2 threads, it was full of un exciting content.  Sorry for trying to liven up a section.

A member that has never seen my car made the wrong assumption that my car is much slower then it is and I corrected him..

Actually, I enjoy just about every racing thread, even if it's two fiestas racing, except yours.  Mainly because, as stated, you're an ass.  It also gets very old seeing you post all over the forums with "Bet I could take him."
