Canon Rebel XT DSLR Camera - $325
« on: December 18, 2010, 11:16:43 AM »
Selling my EOS Digital Rebel XT. Comes with the 18-55 kit lens, battery, charger, 4gb CF memory card, and the original documentation and accessories that came with it from the factory. I'm pretty sure I still have the original box as well.

The body and lens are in like new condition. No damages or blemishes, mechanically perfect. Has a little under 1700 shutter actuations, which is barely broken in for these types of cameras. It's never seen any harsh weather...75% of the pictures taken were indoors, the other 25% were outdoors at the track on nice days.

Only reason I'm selling this is because I'm upgrading and won't have any use for this. This will make a great Christmas present for someone looking to get into photography.

$325 Shipped within the continental US

How would this camera be for a digital camera idiot?

It was the first DSLR camera I ever owned and I definitely learned a ton with it. It comes down to reading the manual, reading up on a website like photography-on-the.net, and then applying what you learned to the camera and experimenting.

I'm a pretty mediocre photographer, but I'm happy with the results I got for being a beginner:

To better answer your question:  If you're looking to get started in photography(or you just want something that can take quality pictures) without spending an arm & a leg, this is right up your alley.  It has automatic modes so you can just point and shoot(perfect for taking quick pics of parts for sale, etc)...Or switch over to the manual modes and adjust exposure, aperture, ISO, etc yourself.

It accepts Canon EF and EF-S lenses, so you can throw some badass glass on the camera if you want and get some killer pictures.  And then when you upgrade to a better camera body down the line, any lenses you bought for this camera will go right on to the new one.

Like I said, only reason I'm selling is because I just ordered a Canon t2i.  I've been doing video production for clients, so I liked the idea of having a DSLR that can shoot excellent video in full HD.

It's what Speedy and I started on as well.  Great entry-level camera.  Read the manual and you will learn very quickly.

I bought an XT when they first came out.  Started with some low end lenses.

One of the first things I shot was a carshow.

Not long after I bought a lovely 10-22mm and was getting shots like this....

And then after spending almost $700 on a Sigma 70-200mm

The point?  Know-how and lenses take you a lot farther than a new or expensive body.

I simple "NO you are too stupid to use this" would be better to keep me from wanting this.

Well... if I can come up with $325 before you sell it... I've been wanting one of these for forever. I think if I get a decent camera, I'd actually pursue a photography career.

Sorry I sold it just before Christmas.  I'd highly recommend http://photography-on-the.net/forum/ to anyone that's looking to get into photography...Specifically Canon cameras.  Also, their for sale section always has a bunch of Rebel XT's for sale for similar prices.
