My online sale experience so far...
« on: April 12, 2018, 03:17:32 PM »
What I've faced from selling my Jeep so far:

"Hi. I have 3500. For your Wrangler" (it's listed at $10,000 on Craigslist, didn't even bother to reply)

"Hi. I'm interested in your used 2002 Jeep Wrangler X. My name is Derick from Manassas Virginia. Can you accept a bank cashiers certified check of $9,750 for payment ?. Because am out of town now for a business. And after the check clears. I'll send my transport company for pick up at your location after the title transfer." (typed exactly as I got it)

Replied no, that it has to be in cash and in person.

"2002 Jeep Wrangler X I'm interested and will like to know if you are; Are you the first owner? Why are you selling it? Is it in good condition? Do you have carfax history? Regards Col Keyes."

(I answer his questions and get this reply)

"est this transaction be done via PayPal and the PayPal charges are on me, so I will like to proceed with payment. Do let me know if you have a PayPal account?"

Told him no PayPal. Cash and in person only.

I woke up this morning to a guy who wanted to trade a Tahoe with the 5.3 for it with some cash. Told him no. Nice guy though.

Had another message waiting as well. Youngish girl (16-18'ish), asked some questions about the interior, asked if it was an automatic, asked if the interior looked nice, seemed pretty excited. Then said she'll talk with her parents, which brought down my excitement a bit lol. Oyi.

Two scammers, a low baller, and a trader. The girl may be a good hit though.

Yeah that sounds like every online sale ever. It's sad that it's so typical.

Craigslist is such a headache to deal with. But, I have sold some things there.   You should see the scammers that try their luck with me when I'm listing Rolex watches. LOL.  It's non stop.  I've also sold camera gear on there as well.   Of course, meeting in person ONLY weeds them all out.  But, the time wasted reading/replying adds up.

Sounds typical.  I always get "What's your lowest price?" (not having seen the car/bike/whatever) which drives me nuts.  When did it get acceptable to be so lazy about bargaining?

If you get that, respond with a higher price.  Those people aren't serious anyway.

I totally ignored that one.

Somebody got a nice Jeep!

Yeah, he kept saying "I really like that Jeep!" as we stood there.  Then before I left, he kept saying it, and watched me the entire way out of the parking lot.  He said he had one more to look at the next day but based on his reaction, I was fairly sure he'd take mine.  Then the next day I get a text saying "Hey, does the AC in your Jeep work?"  At that point, I was sure LOL  It's for his daughter.

Check verified.  Turns out it's an auto loan, and the check is direct from USAA, not his account, so it's good to go.  I'll be meeting him halfway tomorrow to finish it all up.

When I was asking Caryn's dirt bike... I had a persistent guy trying to trade an antique cello.
WTF?
