Forza Horizon 3
« on: September 20, 2016, 06:43:21 PM »
Behold, the one game that actually makes me want an Xbox One:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5XYTE4Oozs
(excuse the facecam, unsure why that was necessary, but the review is good)

Looks great. Suck it, Gran Turismo... you've got a LOT to prove if you want me back.

I really wish Drive Club for PS4 wouldn't have been shuttered, I really think that could have ended up as PlayStation's Forza in a few years.

I guess there is hope, now that Msoft is doing the PC cross compatibility... if I beef up my PC enough, I, too can haz Forza Horizon 3!

With the Delay of GT Sport, I'm leaning towards an Xbox one again. But, still wondering if other titles on PS4 are worth going with the new PS4 Pro coming out? GT Is just about dead to me.

Im at the point of wanting to get the Xbone just for this game.

All I use my PS4 now is for Bluray (hardly ever), youtube (MCM and Roadkill lol) and Netflix.

I couldnt tell you the last time I played a game on it, would've been ages ago though.

You know you can also play this on PC as long as you have Windows 10. No need to run out and buy an Xbone if you have a decent computer.

Not up to speed with PC's anymore. Got any idea how it would run with my laptop?

Only upgrade I have is a 500GB SSD.

Yeah, I just only use a basic laptop now for work... I've never been a PC gamer, so unfortunately thats not really an option.

Yeah, just googled specs, and this laptop ain't running it.

I'm seeing One S prices around $299. Doesn't seem to bad. I may go ahead and get one. I may jump on a PS4 Pro next year after I get a 4K TV. Otherwise, waiting for any GT on the PS4 seems never ending.

Keep an eye on www.slickdeals.net for an Xbone. I constantly see bundles pop up for $299.

Considering selling my PS3, but I may keep it for the kids since we will probably have a second TV later on. $299 would be great if they come out with a FH3 bundle. I'm on slickdeals everyday.

Just watched a top speed video. Like 270MPH and they rear ended another car in traffic. Pretty lame physics are far as that goes. Is this game pretty much an Arcade style racer? I think I may be more interested in Forza 6.

The horizon games are meant to compete more against the nfs franchise so yeah they are a lot more arcady. Forza 6 is your more realistic feeling game. Both are fun in there own ways.

I really wanna play this but I don't see myself buying an Xbone and I doubt I'll purchase Windows 10. I tried to upgrade my gaming PC from Win7 to Win10 but it failed every time. The install would get to 94% and just hang - apparently a really common problem with no guaranteed fix. I let it go for 36 hours once and it never changed.

I have 10, but the store won't even let me download it. It says my machine doesn't have the required hardware.

I loved the original Horizon. Huge world to drive around recklessly with all of the physics and cars from Forza 4.

Considering getting this one. Haven't bought a game since Forza 6 last year.

I finally got the Windows 10 upgrade to work and convinced myself to buy this.

Fuck. It's so good.

The game is locked to 30fps by default which is kind of weird but I'm wondering if it's an optimization issue. I bumped it to 60fps and lowered some settings but it's not perfect. I often have 60fps or very close but there are many times that it drops and pops back up to 60. I've got an i5-4690k and a GTX 970 - there's really no reason I should drop below 60 unless there's something major happening.

Regardless, it's a shit ton of fun. I've never played another Forza so I can't make a comparison to the other games but I really like it. The cars handle well but they don't hold your hand too much even with TCS and the other stability systems enabled. You can easily fuck up in a race.

There's a huge selection of cars new and old. It's nice to see a wide variety. And of course the modding is fun like engine and drivetrain swaps. My favorite car right now is my 1968 Dart swapped to AWD with a twin turbo 7L V12. Just a measly 1400hp.

30 fps lock is very common on modern PC games, and is usually due to the devs trying to mask some shortcoming... but not always.

I assume the 30 fps lock is because of consoles. Game companies boost the shit out of the graphics and don't give a shit about fps. Unfortunately, the consoles can't quite handle 60 fps in most cases unless the dev's optimization is on point.

From what I've read, the optimization issues are everywhere. There are people out there with rigs twice as powerful as mine and getting the same or worse performance.

It's been a while since I've had a game crash this often though. Twice in the last hour - and it's always at frustrating times. It never happens while just cruising around. It's always during (or right before the end of...) a race.

The game is still a blast - it's a lot of fun just to drive from one place to the next. I haven't done any of the online stuff so I can't comment on that.

After reading here and watching Youtube videos, I MUST GET THIS. Looking at TV's too. Anyone know much about the Samsung KS8000/KS9000? Want a TV with HDR, because the HDR in FH3 is awesome as well. Would love an LG E6, but the price!!

I'm no help on the TV front. I bought my plasma because it was a good deal but I regret it - the screen glare is awful. I wouldn't buy another plasma.

One major grief I have with this game (regarding gameplay, not the optimization issues) is how dumb the AI drivers sometimes act during races. These dickheads are driving multi-million dollar hyper cars and they're hitting their brakes on a straight just because there's a slight veer to left or right. It only bothers me because sometimes the races are pretty tight and you're drafting a car hoping to slingshot around but the asshole hits his brakes for no reason and you slam right into him.

Picked up a 500GB One S and FH3. Sadly, I'm where I'm staying before we move has 3MB DSL. That feels more like 1MB. I've spent 2 hours just letting the system update, install Hulu, and Youtube. And now FH3 wants to update which is over 4GB. Guess I won't be playing anytime soon.

Yeah I'm not surprised about that. That's the state of video games these days.

I've started to delve into hyper car races now - I got a Laborghini Aventador as a prize. Not until these races have I really felt the game was an arcade style racer. Of course it was never full sim and is fun for that reason but I've hit a point where AI racers are beginning to feel cheap. Huge rubber-banding, speed boosts (like they have rockets strapped to them), and sticking to the road around corners like the tires are made out of glue.

I'm still able to win races but some of it seems like luck or cheap strategy (pulling in front of a car that's trying to pass). I could turn the difficulty down but I don't like that idea. I haven't had to do that yet - the game actually pops up after a bunch of wins asking if you want to bump it up so I've done that twice now.

We'll see. Still a very enjoyable game and I've got a lot left.

Nice. Yeah, saw Youtube vids with hypercars and the handling was definitely very sticky! Still updating stuff this morning, and getting the PS3 ready to sell to someone. Can't wait to see what this game looks like on my Panasonic Plasma.

Ok finally got a couple hours on this. Also playing with my 7 year old son as well. We're both coming from a PS3 and GT6 as well as a couple other racing games that have lost their luster.

First off, this game is beautiful visually. Since already tweaking the picture of my GT25 Panasonic plasma when I got it, it looks perfect without any adjustments. Even standing at ~3ft away this game is crisp and clear. Amazing.

Game play is for sure "arcade." But, still fun because of the size of the map.

One thing I don't like as much is the fact that we're led along race to race. I kinda want to explore and have a more GT like experience, but that really isn't fair since this is a completely different game. It's slowing growing on me. My son enjoys it much more since it's easier for him to drive.
