Modem/Router Issues: What Needs Replacing?

I have a Netgear CM400 modem and a Netgear N300 router that I bought a while back and recently I haven't been able to get the wireless to work.  I had both units for a couple months and had a cable company tech come out to tell me the modem was bad, so I wound up renting a modem for a while and all was fine.

I moved a few months ago and had to return the rented unit and I tried my old equipment again and it worked for a couple days, but now I can't get online.  Network access via wireless is fine, but I'm not getting out of the house.  However I can plug in with a cord directly to the modem and there is no problem. 

Obviously something is bad but I'm not sure if it's the modem or router and I'm really not sure where to start.  I don't want to replace both if I don't need to spend the money.  Anyone know what I can do?
