2011 Dodge Durango Crew AWD
« on: December 26, 2015, 04:40:39 PM »
Finally a break in the rain to wash and put a quick coat of sealant on.

2011 Durango Crew AWD

95,500 miles

Looks like this thing was garage kept and owned by someone as anal as me about keeping a car clean.  There are maybe two areas on the paint that need polishing, but I'm 99% certain they will come out.  After that, this thing should look like it has 1,000 miles on it.

Shot these below with the Yi Camera for fun.  Pretty wide angle.

I wouldn't have bought one with the 3.6L but I do like the look of the new Durangos.

I wasn't that excited about it either.  But, I don't really need to tow, and it's pretty solid. Although, a newer 8 speed model would probably be nicer as well.  I already like the vehicle so much, that I'm pretty sure our next vehicle will be a V8 model.  The R/T's are awesome.  And, I saw some info about Jeep making a Grand Wagoneer which is built on the same platform.

A little update on this thing.

Love the ride.  Super smooth and quiet.  Again, someone really pampered this thing.  The cloth seats and carpet have some stains/coloring to them, but I think it would be worth it to have all the upholstery professionally cleaned.  Everything else is mint from all the electronic controls to the wheels.  I mean at 95,000 miles I would expect some kind of curb rash, but nothing.  Seats fold nicely, but I'm wondering if 2nd row captains chairs would be easier.  The Pentastar is not a Hemi of course, but it's not bad.  That said, I would love to upgrade to a newer Durango in the future, and it would definitely be a Hemi.

A little update on this Machine.

Hit 100,000 Miles today.

1 - Still runs great.

2 - Brakes give a slight shake under heavy braking.  So, I'm sure a pad/rotor upgrade is due soon.  Going to put something more heavy duty when the time comes.

3 - The cruise control sucks. And apparently this is just they way these things are.  Doesn't hold the set speed well.  Over compensates after it does get back up to speed.  Just annoying.

4 - Remote start + Winter = LOVELY

5 - AWD has proved to be quite handy.  Even in some snow and the steep gravel/dirt/clay roads, I can crawl up stuff with ZERO wheel spin.

6 - Have already grown complacent with the Pentastar and wish it had the HEMI.

I really like the look of the new Durango. Very sharp, especially the R/T. However, the price for a V8 is way too rich for my blood.

How is the third row access? Once our house in CT sells, we'll be in the market for a vehicle with a third row. Straying away from a minivan. It's not out of the question but there's a lot of other options out there.

Yes. I really like the look.  And the newer models with the LED DRL's and the "Race Track" style tail lights is very nice.

Third row access is a little tricky since we have the 2nd row bench.  It's a 60/40 split. So, you have to fold down either side and then tumble. Not hard to do.  But, if you have people in the 2nd row, they have to get out to allow the 3rd row out.  Works for us because we have a 5 and 6 year old.  They can get in an out easy by just folding the seat without tumbling.  Obviously the 2nd row buckets would be a breeze.

We didn't consider a minivan, mostly due to ground clearance.  We drive in a lot of rural/dirt/gravel areas and I ALMOST bottomed it out today. A minivan would have for sure.

The 3.6L is loads better than the failure prone 3.8.  Ask anyone with a Jeep JK.  I did these but the underlying Chrysler design gives me nightmares.

Yeah. Isn't the 3.6L kinda like their workhorse engine now?

Yeah, only $45,000 base price for the R/T. 8-speed auto is pretty cool though.

Yes loved the 8 speed.  Pulled out of the parking lot and the girl riding with us says, "You can really hear the sound of the Hem..........."  And, that's when I floored it.   And then I said, "Yep, I can really hear it."   Surprised at how quick such a big SUV moved.  I'm hooked.  Looked back at the wife with a big grin and said, "We have to get one of these!"

Yeah I'm really considering a used 2012+ but, as you can imagine, they're hard to find and pretty expensive. My wife really wants one too. It's just so much money.

$45k for a V8 4x4 seems cheap to me haha

Shit I was thinking of dropping the $63k (Aud) on the new RHD mustang the other day, with a 14 mth wait time lol

The numbers do look steep. But, when you compare it to the other non truck SUV's, there's really nothing that touches it.  We had an Acadia and thought we would end up in one again.  But, the Dodge has more room. And of course, the available Hemi is just awesome.  To get anything like that from another brand you have to get a truck based SUV.  Correct me if I'm wrong though? Besides like a BMW? But, the 3rd row is optional and tiny.

Also, the new 2017 Acadia is smaller and the base engine is now a 4 banger.  So, they went in a different direction with it anyway.

I just can't imagine shelling out that much money each month for any vehicle.

Explorer Sport with the Ecoboost should be considered.

We looked at the Explorers and just didn't like it.  Although, I was impressed by the Limited AWD Ecoboost I saw at the dealership.  One thing to note about these vehicles.......The 2WD models are FWD.  While the Durango is RWD.  The Acadia we had really had a hard time around here with FWD.

Now at 132,000 miles.

Spring is here and gave her a good wash and a few coats of Wolfgang 3.0 Sealant. I love this stuff!
