Title: $2.3 Million To Win A $10,000 Prize?
Post by: wantahertzdonut on March 08, 2019, 11:22:04 AM
This bit about the 2019 Autorama winner cracked me up.  The original owner started paying people to build this 15 years ago, dies, and his brother claims the prize.  $2,300,000 spent to win a trophy and $10,000.  I'm wondering if this sort of work and show will go the way of the Baby Boomers in a few years?  I guess it employed a few people so that's good.  Just seems silly to spend this much on a car that will never, ever see the road, and it'll only be eligible to win this prize once.

Ridiculous. His money I guess, but still, ridiculous.

It's like the dudes who show up to our Trailer Races with 500hp engines and a full tube chassis. All to win $175, maybe. They ruined the destruction division, now it's just like 5 or 6 dudes who show up anymore with purpose-built race cars. Everyone else stopped trying because it was too expensive to compete. Same shit that happened to the Demolition Derbies in this area.

I'm guessing if you're bringing a tube chassis car to a trailer race then you probably suck at regular races, so here they are.  That's fucking lame, it takes the fun out of it by bringing a ringer.
